Instructions for Making the Griddle Stitch Multi-Color Gingham Blanket Pattern:
Starting Chain
Begin with Winter White yarn. Chain 111 stitches. The blanket’s pattern repeat is (any odd number × 10) + 1, so you can easily adjust the size if desired.
Row 1 – Establishing the Gingham Pattern

- In the second chain from the hook, make 1 SC.
- In the next stitch, make 1 DC.
- Continue alternating SC, DC across the next 8 stitches.
First Color Change: On the tenth stitch (which will be a DC), before completing the stitch, pull through Pale Grey Mix.
- Do not cut the Winter White yarn, carry it by crocheting over it as you work the next section.
Work the next 10 stitches in the alternating SC/DC pattern with Pale Grey Mix. On the tenth DC of this block, drop the grey yarn and pull Winter White through to change back.
Repeat this process, changing colors every 10 stitches, across the entire row. Always change colors on a DC.
At the end of the row:
- Chain 1 and turn your work.
- Bring the grey yarn around the blanket’s edge to prepare for the next row. The last block in Row 1 should be in Winter White.
Rows 2-8 – Continuing the Pattern

- Start with 1 SC into the first stitch (worked into the DC of the previous row).
- Work 1 DC into the next stitch.
- Continue the SC/DC alternation for 8 stitches, then change colors as in Row 1.
- Keep yarn tension consistent by giving the carried yarn a gentle tug before using it.
This creates the first set of color blocks, with Winter White alternating with Pale Grey Mix.
Changing Block Colors
When you complete 8 rows of the same color combination:
- Cut the Winter White yarn, leaving a 9-inch tail to weave in later.
- Pull the grey yarn through, CH 1, and turn.
- Continue the SC/DC pattern with grey into the top of the white stitches.
- On the tenth stitch, join your next accent color (Medium Teal, Fool’s Gold, or Teal Heather).
- Crochet over the grey yarn, pulling it up after every 10 stitches.
Color Progression
Follow this sequence:
- Rows 1-8: Winter White + Grey
- Rows 9-16: Accent Color (Medium Teal) + Grey
- Rows 17-24: Winter White + Grey
- Rows 25-32: Accent Color (Fool’s Gold) + Grey
- Rows 33-40: Winter White + Grey
- Rows 41-48: Accent Color (Teal Heather) + Grey
- Continue this alternating pattern until you have 11 blocks high (88 rows total).
Accent colors are repeated in the order: Medium Teal → Fool’s Gold → Teal Heather → Medium Teal → Fool’s Gold.
After Row 88, tie off and weave in all yarn ends.
Adding the Border
The border is worked with Teal Heather yarn.
