Materials

  • Yarn: Scheepjes Stone Washed (DK, 78% Cotton / 22% Acrylic) – any color
  • Hook: 3.5 mm (US E/4)
  • Notions: Yarn needle, scissors
  • Yardage: Approx. 50-100g for edging + fringe (varies by project size and fringe length)

Finished Measurements

  • Edging Width (excl. fringe): Approx. 1″ (2.5 cm)
  • Fringe Length: Approx. 3″ (7.5 cm) after trimming
  • Gauge: Not critical; match project for consistency

Stitching Instructions for Making the Fringed Edging Free Pattern:

Foundation Rnd (RS):

  • Join yarn to any edge st with a sl st. Ch 1, work sc evenly around edge (approx. 1 sc per st or row end). Join with sl st to first sc. Do not fasten off.
  • TIP: For corners, place 3 sc in each corner st to keep edging flat.

Edging Rnd:

  • Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), sk next st, dc in next st, rep from to around. Join with sl st to top of beg ch-3.
  • You now have a dc mesh spacing to anchor your fringe.

Fringe Attachment

Fringe Attachment
  • Cut strands of yarn approx. 6″ (15 cm) long.
  • Bundle 3 strands together per fringe.
  • Fold bundle in half to create a loop.
  • Insert hook into any dc st or ch-sp, grab the loop, pull it partway through.
  • Pull loose ends through loop and tighten to form a lark’s head knot.
  • Rep in every dc st or every other st depending on desired fullness.
  • Optional: Attach fringe only on shorter edges or corners for design variation.

Finishing

Fringed Edging Finishing
  • Trim fringe evenly using a ruler or comb as a guide.
  • Steam block lightly to set fringe and smooth edging (optional).
  • Weave in all ends on WS with a yarn needle.

Customization Ideas

  • Add beads to the fringe before knotting.
  • Swap dc mesh for shell stitch or picot edging.
  • Alternate fringe colors for a playful look.
  • Use fewer or more strands per knot to control thickness.
