
Pattern Description:
The Yngrid Cardigan is a baby knitting pattern designed by Rillerundt. It’s knitted bottom-up, back and forth, featuring a delicate lace structure and garter stitch edges.
Sleeves are worked in the round. Buttonholes are created on the right side, and assembly involves attaching threads, sewing underarms, and adding buttons.
Materials Needed & Measurements:
- Yarn: Golden Fleece Carders – Cotton
- Gauge: 23 stitches per 10cm.
- Needle size: 3mm and 3.5mm 60cm circular needle and double point needle

Stitches & Abbreviations Used:
- PM = place marker
- Tbl Rib = k1 tbl, p1 (knit 1 through the back loop, purl 1)
- K2tog = knit 2 stitches together
- Tbl = knit/purl through the back loop
- Yon = yarn over needle / yarn over right needle
- RS = Right side
- WS = Wrong side
- Garter st = Knit every row
Instructions for Making the Yngrid Cardigan Pattern:

Rib Body
The cardigan body is knitted back and forth, starting from the bottom rib and working upwards.
- Cast on 111 (121) 131 (141) sts on 3mm needles.
- Work 2.5 (3) 3.5 (4) cm in tbl rib. The first and last 6 sts are always knitted in garter st.
- Buttonholes: After approximately 1cm, cast off for a buttonhole on the RS. The buttonhole sequence is: k2, k2tog, yon. Repeat this buttonhole placement every approximately 3.5 (3.5) 4 (4) cm from the last buttonhole, always on the RS.
- Tip for Nice Edge: Remove the first stitch and move it onto the right needle without knitting it every time you start a row.
Body
- Change to 3.5mm needles and knit 2 rows. Ensure you are on the RS.
- Lace Structure: Begin working the lace structure, repeating these rows throughout the work:
- Row 1 (RS): 6 garter st, k10, yon, sl1, k1, psso, k8 repeat until 15 sts remain. K9, 6 garter st.
- Row 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 (WS): Purl sts, except for the first and last 6 sts, which are knitted in garter st.
- Row 3 (RS): 6 garter st, k9, yon, sl1, k2tog, psso, yon, k7 repeat until 16 sts remain. K10, 6 garter st.
- Row 5 (RS): 6 garter st, K10, yon, sl1, k1, psso, k8 repeat until 15 sts remain. K9, 6 garter st.
- Row 7: Knit.
- Row 9 (RS): 6 garter st, k5, yon, sl1, k1, psso, k8 repeat until 10 sts remain. K4, 6 garter st.
- Row 11 (RS): 6 garter st, k4, yon, sl1, k2tog, psso, yon, k7 repeat until 11 sts remain. K5, 6 garter st.
- Row 13 (RS): 6 garter st, k5, yon, sl1, k1, psso, k8 repeat until 10 sts remain. K4, 6 garter st.
- Row 15: Knit.
- Continue knitting until the entire work measures 15 (17) 19 (21) cm.
PM for Sleeves
- Place markers for sleeves: Knit 29 (31) 34 (36) sts, PM, k 53 (59) 63 (69) sts, PM, k 29 (31) 34 (36) sts out the row.
- Cast off for sleeves on the next row: Knit until 2 sts remain before the first sleeve mark. Cast off the next 4 sts. Knit until 2 sts remain before the last sleeve mark. Cast off the next 4 sts. Knit out the row.
- You should now have 103 (113) 123 (133) sts on the needle. Set the work aside to knit the sleeves.
Sleeves
The sleeves are knitted in the round from the rib upwards.
- Cast on 34 (36) 38 (40) sts on 3mm needles.
- PM where the stitches meet to mark the start of the row.
- Work 2.5 (3) 3.5 (4) cm in tbl rib.
- Change to 3.5mm needles.
- Knit until the sleeve measures 4 (3.5) 3.5 (4) cm.
- Start Increases (inc): K1, yon, knit until 1 st remains on the row, yon, k1. On the next row, tbl the yon.
- Repeat Inc: Repeat increases after 4 (3.5) 3 (3) cm from the last inc for a total of 3 (4) 5 (6) times.
- You should now have 40 (44) 48 (52) sts for the sleeve.
- Knit until the entire sleeve measures 15 (17) 19 (21) cm.
- Cast off sts under the sleeve: Cast off the first 2 and last 2 sts on the row, for a total of 4 sts.
Main Piece
- Take the body and knit until the first sleeve cast off (WS).
- PM, knit the sleeve sts onto the body, PM, knit until the next sleeve cast off.
- Set the main piece aside and knit the last sleeve.
- PM, knit the last sleeve onto the main piece, PM, and knit out the row.
- You should now have 175 (193) 211 (229) sts for the main piece.
- Work 4 rows.
Raglan
- Start raglan decreases. The decrease pattern is: Knit until 3 sts remain before the sleeve mark. K2tog tbl, k2, k2tog. Repeat this at every sleeve mark. You will have decreased a total of 8 sts.
- Note: If the lace structure falls on the 3 sts before or after the decrease sts, knit these sts without the lace structure.
- Repeat the decrease on every RS a total of 13 (15) 17 (19) times.
- You should now have 71 (73) 75 (77) sts on the needle.
Neck
- Change to 3mm needles.
- Work 2.5 (3) 3.5 (4) cm in tbl, starting from the RS. The first and last 6 sts are still knitted in garter st.
- Cast off.
Assembly
- Attach threads.
- Sew underarms.
- Sew on buttons.
- Steam work.
