Granny’s Baby Log Cabin Blanket

Granny's Baby Log Cabin Blanket

Pattern Description:

Skill Level: Easy/Intermediate

This blanket combines the charm of the classic granny square with the modular style of a log cabin layout.

It’s cozy, colorful, and ideal for a baby blanket or lap throw. A unique method of turning your work at the start of each round or row helps maintain consistent texture throughout the piece.

Materials Needed:

  • Yarn: About 1200 yards of worsted weight (4/medium) acrylic yarn (Example: Red Heart Soft Yarn – 5 skeins in Off White, Honey, Tangerine, Leaf, and Seafoam; 256 yds/5 oz per skein)
  • Hook: Size H/8 (5.0 mm) crochet hook or size needed to match gauge
  • Notions: Tapestry needle, stitch marker or scrap yarn
  • Finished Size: Approx. 36 x 36 in (91 x 91 cm)

Abbreviations (U.S. Terms):

  • ch – chain
  • dc – double crochet
  • sl st – slip stitch
  • sp – space

Special Stitches:

  • 2-dc cluster: Two double crochets worked in the same stitch/space
  • 3-dc cluster: Three double crochets worked in the same stitch/space

Pattern Notes:

  • The project begins with a small granny square and expands by working log cabin-style blocks around it.
  • Turn your work at the beginning of each round or row to preserve texture consistency.
  • Chain-2 is typically used to begin rows; use a chain-3 if you prefer.
